Juniata Valley Boy's Basketball

Youth Basketball Program

Tj Anderson

I grew up in the gym. I had great beginnings coming from a family of basketball players. I played HS Basketball at T.C. Williams HS in Alexandria, VA. I earned my degree at Stratford University as a computer programmer.

I began my coaching career in 2006 under Brock Anders coaching staff at Huntingdon HS as an Assistant Coach. While at Huntingdon, under Coach Anders I was taught the in’s and the outs of the coaching game. Coach Anders took the time to give me a chance to learn, grow and develop under his system. After Huntingdon, I had the chance to develop under the late Great Coach John Swogger from Altoona HS. He would teach me the importance of developing players through his Basketball Program at the Summit. From there, I went to State College to help out with different youth basketball programs. I've learned how to run and develop my own Youth Program under Glenn Sekunda and Andy Friberg which were called PA Slam Youth Basketball Program. These two coaches are a huge part of my basketball family.

As an Assistant Coach at Huntingdon HS, I'd created a non-profit basketball program to help develop the youth in Huntingdon County. In 2011, I was asked to return to Huntingdon HS as an Assistant Coach and help mentor and develop a group of kids that I'd worked with in their Jr High days. We went 22-2 that season and the Huntingdon Cats Youth Basketball Program was born.

In 2013, I was hired as the Juniata Valley Boys Jr High Coach and went 15-1 that season. During the flowing season, I was hired as the Juniata Valley Head Boys Varsity Basketball Coach. We've created an exciting Youth Basketball Program called the Juniata Valley Stingers, which helps develop youth players within our community. My record at the Valley, as a head coach is 47-56.

In 2016, we went to the 2nd round in the State Tournament. Last season, we fell short after going number one in the district and undefeated in the League to lose to a very good Blacklick Valley Team, which kept us from getting to the state tournament. We hope to return this season with a record of 10-4 on the season so far.

In 2019, we won the District 6 Championship and a birth to the state championship tournament. Our coaching staff and I were elected to coach the Altoona Mirror Allstar Game and we won by snapping a two year losing streak. We continue to have success with the AAU Program with 5 teams and 7 seven coaches.

Thank for selecting us, it truly means a lot to me!
